When: Saturday, August 31
We're excited about our first varsity race of the season! Our varsity teams for Cool Breeze are comprised of the Top 8 from the time trials plus the Top 2 Falcons from the Bronco Roundup. Here's the entry list.
Where: Pomona Fairplex, 1101 W McKinley Ave, Pomona, CA 91768
Parking: Enter at Gate 17, off Fairplex Drive and McKinley Avenue on the South side of the Pomona Fairplex. Parking cost is $17. You will pay when you enter Gate 17.
Schedule:
8:14 p.m. (Sundown Showdown Girls)
8:40 p.m. (Sundown Showdown Boys)
Note: Due to extreme heat two years ago, the races were pushed back by an hour. The forecast looks favorable for Saturday evening, so we're likely good to go. But we bring it to your attention just in case.
When to Arrive: Please plan to arrive 2 hours before your race. Keep in mind that northbound traffic on Saturdays can be terrible!
Where to Find Us: Look for the bright gold Torrey Pines team canopy, which will be set up in the Team Tent Area. See the map here.
Course Details: Click here for a map. This course is a repeated 1.5 mile loop. The terrain is grass and dirt with 9 ft. of elevation gain and permanent lights. This is a very good spectator course, as you can easily see your runner multiple times during the race.
Results: There is a digital scoreboard at the finish line for immediate individual place and time. Live results will also be available in the Finished Results app.
Live Stream: HDRunners will stream the race, likely on their YouTube channel.
What to Bring: Uniform and team warm-up shirt, water bottle, running shoes, racing flats and a snack. Boys may wear compression shorts under their uniform but they must be all black. If the compression shorts have a logo, it must be smaller than a business card.
Spectators: $5 entrance fee. CASH OR ZELLE ONLY. There will be a wide array of food trucks and refreshment stands for your enjoyment, as well as T-shirts for purchase. The course map details where spectators are NOT allowed to stand, where to enter, as well as the locations of restrooms, concessions and food trucks.
Accommodations: There are still a few hotels in the area with rooms available for Saturday night if you don't want to drive home after the race. The Sheraton Fairplex Hotel & Conference Center is super close to the venue. It may not be the cheapest, but if there are rooms available, the location can't be beat.
Food: If you're planning to be in the area early or check into a hotel, we found a super tasty food spot last year. They have tons of healthy options in large portions for athletes to fuel up. The restaurant is Dr. Grubbs and it is located about 10 minutes from the Pomona Fairplex.
Finally, as a heads up, the team has a fun tradition of going to In-N-Out Burger after races. Last year we went to this location, so there's a good chance we will go to that one again.
We hope to see everyone at the race, cameras ready!!
P.S. This is an odd thing to bring up, but last year at Cool Breeze, the facility mostly ran out of toilet paper by the time of our late night races. Hopefully it won’t be an issue this year, but we bring it to your attention just in case you want to be prepared. 🤷♀️
